They still have Virginia-class submarines so they’ll live.
You know who’s reaaaaally pissed about this? The Australians. They fucked the French over by surprise-canceling their order for custom designed diesel submarines, and now the US Navy gets first dibs on the output of the struggling Virginia-class submarine manufacturers so Australia isn’t sure they’ll get anything at all.
LOL, maybe if we were able to design a sub that actually worked properly we wouldn’t have to go crying to other countries to buy their subs.
Look up former Australian prime minister Paul Keatings National Press club address on the AUKUS submarine deal. It’s a good watch.
Here’s an article with the main part of Keating’s address in a video at the top:
Edit: Actually that clip misses so much of the meat of the matter. Watch the whole thing here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmgxAoa1n-8

This is pretty funny, especially given how the US has struggled to meaningfully project power in the last year. I guess in a profit-based war machine delays and cost overruns are inevitable though since everyone in the supply chain is just trying to steal as much as they can for themselves.
