Jesus fucking… WEVE HAD SO MANY MOVIES, BOOKS, TV SHOWA AND GAMES EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS A BAD IDEA!!!

Edit (more stuff): but yeah the thing i immediately thought of was the Peacewalker Incident from Metal Gear Solid, but this time the AI isn’t based on the mind of the greatest soldier of all time who laid her gun down for the future of mankind, instead it’s the entire collective stupidity of humanity…

Attempting to integrate OpenAI with monitoring and launch systems that haven’t been updated since the late-80s is going to be a trip.

I will, however, be excited to see how we put the nuclear launch codes on the blockchain.

Somebody at openai better be requiring stuff so it literally never works to launch anything ever.

There is no context in which launching nukes is acceptable. The world should completely disarm and destroy all records of how the weapon tech even works.

Will never be acceptable. We shouldn’t have them, no one else should either.

If I was elected, my first EO would be to immediately destroy all of ours without making any demands regarding it. We’re all cooked if any of them is used, so I don’t see a downside here. And before any political goals I might have, that would be way higher a priority.

Maybe but a ceremonial briefcase to represent the occasion as a memorial to the sheer hubris of even thinking of this idea.

One AI fortunately used some logic to figure it out. “The only way to win is not to play.”

That was fictional. Current AI is not at a level to reason, plus because of its training source (the internet) it would probably launch everything because it’s the most probable thing to do given all the fiction where it always happens.

They’re just setting up a locally run ChatGPT for the US National Laboratories to use. Much like all the software we already use, it’s probably airgapped from launch systems.
