I have been thinking about pursuing a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate. I think it would be my best chance to get to go abroad and experience life outside my home country while also being able to work. However, I have heard some mixed opinions on the career, with some saying it’s great and others saying it’s not and that comes down to the pay. Because getting a TEFL certificate is expensive, I wanted to get some feedback from others to see if it’s worth it before spending all that money.
When you talk about going abroad, have you checked if the destined country recognizes that certificate and you could make a living with it?
I was looking at Spain, Portugal, and France. I know they have government programs where they can pay for some necessities in exchange for teaching, but the pay is low, which means you have to take on extra work. As long as I have a bachelor’s degree and a legit TEFL certificate, I should be good to go.
Sounds fascinating and adventurous. I wish you great success!
