  • Here, ‘just stop oil’ has been throwing beans at famous artworks for publicity. The art works are all behind glass so aren’t harmed. They then put it on social media. They also climb tall stuff and put up banners.

How about sponsoring people who have the time to go protest, hiring buses and setting up camps like occupy did? People who can’t go can chip in to fund it.

  • I get that you’re disheartened but pick yourself up.

Do you know that the vast majority of people lived in absolute poverty, working every working hour for not enough money to eat?

That’s really wage slaving, when you’re too poor to have a home or even to rent a bed and you sleep stood up against a rope to stop you falling on the floor.

Or you can’t make it and you go into a workhouse, separated from your kids and made to work for no money and given gruel to eat.

The way people got out of that hell was to organise, to fight, to keep fighting. That’s how workers won ALL the rights which are normal in the west - minimum wage, no child labour, maternity pay… Every single decent law was fought for.

So don’t tell me we or you have it hard right now, just because things are harder than you’re used to and we’re all scared.

We’ve had it easier all our lives and most of us didn’t want to go out of our comfort zone to fight to make life better. Our chickens are coming home to roost now.

Let’s try to lift each other up instead of demoralising each other.

Americans are struggling because of a lack of socialism, basically. They can’t do this and keep the hyper individualistic and selfish society they have now. Anyone reading this, look up libertarian socialism. Socialism can co-exist with capitalism and does so successfully in many countries. Make it happen in your state and who knows, you too could have the safety net needed to assert your democratic rights in a crisis.

That’s no reason not to try. Try while you can. Get organised. Use existing groups and band together, safety in numbers. How about the occupy wall St people? Trade unions? I think people are kind of in disbelief about what’s going on, but this is happening fast and it seems like there’s so little response.

  • I think he’d be smart enough to not want to take the risk of destroying so much. Yeah he’s a psychopath but who would gamble with that kind of destruction… I guess if the nuke failed to explode that’s another consideration but I’d assumed even if the air defences worked in any sense, the nuke would still detonate? If that happened in the air, wouldn’t it kill/maim a lot of people and taint land with the radioactivity?

What worries me is that the UK nukes are (I think) unable to be used without US authority so at the moment they’re essentially useless even as a deterrent. I saw Kier Starmer giving that speech recently and yep, we’re in trouble lol, he’s no good at hiding his feelings. I almost feel sorry for him, except that I remember what he did to become the labour leader.
