  • I’m not sure what you’re asking here. Are you asking why people bring up being black or make it a part of their identity? Being black in America is a part of their every day lived experience. At no point will society let them forget they are black and just let them be themselves. If not outright discrimination, then they’ll experience people making assumptions about them based solely on the color of their skin. Assuming they’re poor, uneducated, unintelligent, untrustworthy, or dangerous. So, since they can’t escape the label anyways, they embrace it in order to find community and to heal. Like one might do if they were a part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Are you asking why black people have stereotypes about white people? The same reason you have stereotypes about anything. Humans are pattern recognizing machines, often to our own detriment.

Are you asking why black people might treat white people with disdain or fear? It’s because the most blatant discrimination towards any out-group will always come from the most insulated in-group. As a result, they can’t blindly trust that white people will treat them with dignity or respect.

Are you asking how we end racism or to get more people to think like you (colorblind)? That requires one, ending systemic oppression of black people (if you think this step is done, then you need to do you some learning). Two, educating people on the history of black people in America, both their contributions and their struggles, so that there’s a solid understanding and empathy built up. Three, wait several generations so that no one has negative, undeserved biases against black people OR create a culture where people can be called out on their racist actions without fear of retribution or retaliation.

This is really difficult to grasp, especially if you’ve never experienced direct discrimination and think that is just the actions of individuals that are the issue. As a white man with a black partner, it took me YEARS to really breakdown all the negative assumptions that society instilled in me without me even realizing. Even the “I treat everyone the same, regardless of their skin color” thought is bad, because it means you’re unwilling to listen when people tell you they’re being harmed because of their skin color. Especially if it’s you doing the harm.

You can’t start by being mad at the discriminated for telling you they’re being discriminated against. You need to listen to them with empathy and compassion, and realize also that they don’t really need to teach you about this stuff, you need to be inquisitive and want to learn.

  • Since geopolitics switched to neoliberalism, Governments are unable to respond to the needs of their citizens. This has led to an increasingly fast-paced game of hot potato where any leading political party looks incompetent as economic disaster after economic disaster crushes more of their citizens. In this climate, the anger of Nationalism/Fascism becomes easier to swallow, since it has “answers” to your “problems”.

That, plus moneyed interests need to keep climate change going in order to make all the money, so they embrace fascism rather than competent Government.

  • Hey. You’re the one shoveling disheartening shit, not me. Pretending a general strike would be easy here in the states is one of the other reasons why it’s so fucking hard to do. Every time someone half-asses one, people buy into the hype, and then nothing happens makes it less likely for an actual general strike to happen. It’s a logistical nightmare that could only work if you got unions to buy-in, and that would require coordinating contract expirations to coincide around the time you want the strike to happen, since unions in the states can’t legally go on a solidarity strike. I’m definitely not saying it’s impossible, but crying that it’s actually really easy and the fact that America hasn’t done it is because we all actually like the taste of boot is the actual demotivating opinion to shovel.

  • Refuse? This was called by unions. In the US, that kind of union activity is illegal. What system do you think we can use in the US to call for a general strike that enough people would 1) be aware of the strike 2) agree with the need for a strike and 3) be able to participate without harming their livelihoods? Cause in Greece, the answer for all three was unions. Here in the states… I don’t know if anything is setup for that. Even reaching enough people to begin with would be tough.

Like, be rightly angry at the laws in the US that make this nigh impossible, maybe raise awareness, but don’t blame the damn victims.

… if your mouth is healthy, neither of these things hurt or bleed. The “shiv” is used to measure the pull away happening between your gums and teeth. If you brush/floss regularly, that gap will be small and not inflamed so it won’t hurt or bleed. Likewise with flossing, your mouth is bleeding because it’s fighting off an active infection in the gum tissue. If you flossed enough, there wouldn’t be an infection there to fight and no bleeding would occur.

You’re requiring the entire American populace to have the same level of being informed as yourself in order for this plan to work. In the real world, lots of people are incredibly ignorant of the actual political situation in the US. The democrats need to adjust their messaging to get those who aren’t politically engaged but vote. That means speaking on the material reality for the average person and discussing how to solve those issues. That means EMBRACING MORE PROGRESSIVE POLICIES.

Yeah, if you know a leftist who stayed home because Harris wasn’t left enough, shame the fuck out of them. But that isn’t the same as saying Harris lost because she didn’t embrace the left. Most Americans don’t know they’re left-leaning because anything “socialist” must be evil.

  • If that’s their takeaway, then we’re doomed. They did nothing but court Republicans with their “We can be tough on migrants too” shit. It always blows up in their faces. Biden ran a moderately progressive campaign and blew Trump out of the water. Maybe… just maybe the supposed left party should stop courting the right. Most Americans agree with progressive policies (once you couch them to not sound too “socialist”)

  • Project 2025 is now in play. Abortion ban, porn ban, removal of federal employees who aren’t “loyal” enough. The only saving grace is that Republicans can’t govern for shit, so there’s going to be a lot of wasted time on infighting. Not enough, though, since a lot of it can be pushed through by the president alone.

Oh! And the oldest, most conservative SCOTUS justices will retire, solidifying the conservative super-majority on the court for the next 20-40 years. The only way to change that is to change the makeup of the court, which requires a trifecta. So yes, it isn’t the end of the world, but it isn’t “no big deal” either.

In order to undo the damage, we have to fundamentally change the Democrat Party to be just as far left as the Republicans have moved right. And that took them over a decade to accomplish (and they have the easier task, since big business wants both parties to move right).
