When I was poor I would only wear one contact at a time to make them last longer. I would alternative eyes, and would either take it out or switch to glasses when I was reading or looking at a screen for any extended amount of time. My eyesight improved after a few years, not to the point of being cured but my prescription got weaker. I don’t know if there’s actual causation, and the optometrist just said “hmm, interesting” when I brought it up, but it does seem like that is what improved my vision.

Also, I know someone with a rare vision issue who had to see a vision therapist to do eye exercises and whatever they did was helpful for them. That’s a more specific situation though than your typical eyesight problems where corrective lenses can be used because I think it involved how their brain processes visual input.

Most years its no decorations but occasionally my wife wants them so she puts up some lights and a plastic tree. Seems to happen every 3 to 5 years. This year she bought a more high end tree and a bunch of lights so I think the rate of decorative years might be about to increase.

If they are the same person they may have two jackets that are very similar but slightly different and two different backpacks. Someone on top of opsec or paranoid having lots of easily changeable looks would make sense. Although ideally you would want different colored jackets. It could also be that the camera quality isn’t good enough for the details in the jacket to show up and they only have two backpacks. It does really look like the two pictures on the right could be someone different with a similar jacket to the two pictures on the left though.

A few weeks into a new job someone reported me for being a dick to them. Management was not happy with me until I proved I had never interacted with this person. Turns out it was just a dumb asshole playing some kind of weird office politics.

Infighting in the military is a significant escalation on the path towards a civil war. The chance for the coup to have any appearance of legitimacy was lost very quickly so it was either take that risk or back down. Ideally for a coup to succeed you have these details sorted and a plan in place to seize control before you start the coup, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here so backing down was the only realistic choice.

Hardware support is still an issue. I recently tried to use Linux on my laptop, it didn’t work out primarily because not all of the hardware was supported. I thought it was when I bought the laptop but the documentation of what actually works and doesn’t work isn’t clear or accurate so I ended up with a laptop that can technically run Linux but has various hardware in it will not function and likely never will.

Nope, happened in Paris getting on one of the big tour boats that cruise the Seine. I think it was a large extended family or possibly a tour group composed of multiple families, the youngest were preteens and the oldest were maybe 50s or early 60s. I couldn’t figure out if there was a tour guide or anyone in charge of the group. We stayed as far from them as we could, they seemed like a bunch of rich assholes and were mostly loud and obnoxious the entire cruise. And just to make it clear, I’ve seen a lot of shit behavior from tourists in my life and no ethnicity or nationality has a monopoly on shitty tourists. People are monsters, and rich assholes are gonna rich asshole. This one just stands out as the worst because it was such a large group and the violence was so sudden and pointless, and then we were trapped on a boat ride with them.

A big group of Chinese tourists wanted to be first on a boat for some reason so they all just started shoving everyone out of the way, including little old ladies and children. It was really shocking behavior, like suddenly everyone around them was no longer a person. The boat was huge and had plenty of room for everyone so it wasn’t really obvious why they decided to attack people, they didn’t really gain anything by being the first aboard.

My personal life is very different, I’ll generally talk about whatever with friends or even people I’ve just met. I think I am very unprofessional when I’m not working, it’s only when I’m working that I’m like this.

The point about drama isn’t necessarily about me sharing drama, there’s way more potential catalysts beyond that. Office politics can get crazy and all sorts of things can create weird drama. Being the boring person who is nice to everyone but only talks about work topics is an effective way to avoid that kind of bullshit.

There’s a difference between being on friendly terms and being friends. I’m on friendly terms with everyone I work with, I’m not friends with any of them. Even those I’ve worked with for many years. I’m not at work to make friends or hang out or talk about personal issues. I’ll listen politely to whatever a coworker wants to say to me, but if its not about work I’ll try to redirect the conversation or end it as politely as possible. For me it’s about professionalism; if we’re not talking about a work related subject, we are off topic and wasting time. There’s also the potential for drama that comes with people at work knowing about your personal life and keeping a strict division between work and home avoids that risk.

Because they are both dependent on people who are no longer being born? The scenario is a population collapse, it’s going to have major consequences. The labor shortage alone would destroy the economy and upend society. Our civilization would look completely different within a generation.

Their official marketing is to call Windows 11 “the most secure version of Windows ever” or something along those lines. They definitely use “the most secure” in their marketing, but I think they do it in a way where it is only in reference to previous consumer versions of Windows if you actually parse out what is being said.

After it became less acceptable to explicitly hate the gays in public they needed a new target. There’s a lot of people who like being riled up with hatred, who are fearful and need a bogeyman, etc. It’s either human nature or something deeply embedded in our culture. Eventually they will move on and find a new target to focus their hate on.

Maybe. US history is full of crazy fucked up shit that the nation has made its way through thus far. This kind of situation hasn’t really happened in the US before though, and historically these kinds of situations do not work out well. We are past the point of no return in that the status quo Washington Consensus or whatever you want to call the previous era is gone now, whatever is coming is something new and different and the US role and position in the world are never going back to what they were before. Really I would say this process started with Bush II but there is no reversing it now that Trump has won a convincing electoral victory. Whether we’re past the point of no return for the US constitutional order isn’t really clear yet but it’s not looking good.
