Literally never addressed Nazis in the west. Not one bit. Why’d you bring it up?

The point I did bring up is that the soviets also secured rocket engineers, and undoubtedly would have loved to have von Braun and similar.

And beyond that, as the original comment was discussing Russians in Ukraine, which they obviously are. Even if it is a proxy war, it is a just one because Russia kicked it off with a flaccid attempt on kyiv. Edit and NATO is backing Ukraine. If Russia pulled out tomorrow the evil NATO certainly wouldn’t chase them into classic Russian territory.

That’s true: the scientists are hardly worth mentioning, because most were just worker bees. It’s really the assimilation of the Nazi command structure that was the issue.

      Communism—unlike liberalism—is incompatible with fascism.

Yeah, whatever quirk of Lemmy’s UI shrinks my image and makes the text impossible to read.

They didn’t use the command structure you’re referring to because they didn’t get them. Very silly assuming they just ignored them because of some principled stance.

Agreed communism is incompatible with fascism but that’s historically convenient because Stalin was a wolf in sheep’s wool on that topic. His government modeled many fascist behaviors quite readily.

Edit also I’d say declaring the workerbee vs command distinction is a clear goalpost move.

I asserted that the soviets took Nazi scientists and technologists, and they did.

I expect you’re right on that last point even without looking at the evidence.

And in the spirit of conversation, I acknowledge NATO is not some benevolent entity against all evils. I just find the kneejerk too much sometimes.
