I’m at the point where I’m going to say that we need to prohibit facial recognition devices for companies and peiplemin general, and mostly for government too.

This shit is going too far. I know I don’t have a right to privacy when I’m outsidey home but I will very fucking well have a tight to not have my privacy abused to hell and back when I’m outside. No, Facebook, you don’t get to facially recognize me on the street and then follow my location everywhere, monitor what I’m doing while Im not even on your fucking website.

The only place where I remotely think it might be allowed in a very limited fashion is by governments and them only after OK from a judge and even them only in a very limited set of circumstances, like a missing child or a known > violent criminal who’s on the run. Couple this with harsh penalties for police officers who would break those rules. This, of course, only works in well established democracies where police is very well controlled, else it’s just abuse again as well.

Beyond that tiny scope, fuck your facial recognition, and fuuuuuuccckkk Facebook and fuck mark Zuckerberg with an umbrella.

I think it’s the one thing available to us that can make sure we’re still alive and useful after AGI really comes into existence.

Once real real AGI AI is here with access to robotucs, we will either be relegated to the status of pet or, judging on how badly we treat the world and eachother, culled to more manageable proportions or just plain exterminated. If done right through open source principles, it’ll be a system you can control yourself and activate/deactivate on command, and as needed. You authenticate either with something that you have (physical key, for example), something that you know (passwor for example), or something that you are (biometrics, basically).

Dopplegangers rule out that last one, but the previous two still work fine

Aahhh, plucking my fingers. It’s so ingrained in my head that there is some special separate process (that I don’t control) in my brain taking care of this.

My wife will slap my hands when I do it because I asked her to help me stop it but even when in my head I’m like “stop. It. Now.” then one hand just moves to the other and starts plucking and I’m like “wtf, I said stop!”

The one thing that I’ve noticed that helps is prayer beads. I’m atheist, but they work wonders to occupy that little process in my head, I redirect all it’s attention to those beads and so with one hand I’m moving the beads one click forward every half second or so all day long. That works!

I hate when people use the word “research” because most people think it’s reading a Facebook page.

Real research requires nyears of studying to actually understand the subject before advancing the field. It requires sometimes year or decades of meticulously measuring and registering data, all while ensuring bias stays out of the data.

To 99% of people it’s spending 5 minutes to find the right Facebook page that will confirm their preconceptions…its gross
