‘We are prepared to respond in a swift and coordinated manner’ if Tehran sends missiles to Moscow, G7 ministers say.

The G7 sent a pointed warning to Iran on Friday to refrain from sending ballistic missiles to Russia, saying that such a move would trigger “new and significant measures against Iran.”

The warning, issued in a communiqué by G7 foreign ministers, came just hours after an Israeli retaliatory strike on Iran. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told reporters in Capri that the United States had been “informed” by Israel about the strike at “the last minute, but there was no involvement on the part of the United States.”

The G7’s admonition follows intelligence reports indicating that Iran might replenish Russia’s depleted stocks of ballistic missiles and related technology.

‘We are prepared to respond in a swift and coordinated manner’

So why didn’t they do that immediately with the drones?

One of the mulled potential sanctions could be flight restrictions to Iran Air,

Doesn’t sound like they have a lot of options if that’s the best they can think of.

I’m all for pressuring Iran to not help Russia, but the pressure needs to be real, and their behavior lately doesn’t really allow for any carrots IMO. I’d say if we need to put pressure on Iran, it would have to be embargo with blockade to enforce it, flight restrictions could then be part of that. Hollow threats won’t accomplish anything.

Blockades are an act of war.

The problem with sanctions and other punishments is that eventually you don’t have anything to threaten with.
